About Course

This two-hour continuing education course provides tax professionals with a practical understanding of the federal tax rules governing employee fringe benefits. The course is designed for enrolled agents and other tax return preparers who advise business clients on compensation and benefits design, as well as those preparing individual returns for employees receiving fringe benefits.

Participants examine the statutory fringe benefit exclusions under IRC §132, group-term life insurance imputed income under IRC §79, and cafeteria plan rules under IRC §125. The course provides detailed coverage of Dependent Care and Educational Assistance Programs, the meals and lodging exclusion, employee achievement awards, and the distinction between traditional HRAs, QSEHRAs, and Individual Coverage HRAs. The course concludes with nondiscrimination testing, Form W-2 and Form 1099 reporting requirements, and common practitioner errors in fringe benefit compliance.
